Why is English so difficult?

User Rating:  / 0

English!  Why is it so difficult?  Why don’t native speakers understand me? What can I do to improve my English?  How can I increase my confidence when speaking English?

Welcome to Speech Advantage!  We are here to help you answer your questions about accent modification.

In English, it seems that there are more exceptions to the rules than rules.  As you know,  speakers cannot rely upon spelling to pronounce an English word. Many letters have different pronunciations.  For instance, the letter “a” is pronounced differently in all of the following words:  at, Ray, law, what, many.  Additionally, different letters can have the same sound:  “sun” versus “son” or “eight” versus “ate.”  And to further confuse us, words that are actually spelled the same can have different pronunciations and meanings:  “I’m standing too CLOSE to the door to CLOSE it.”  Once we begin to get a feeling for the actual pronunciation, we throw in inflection, intonation, pitch, stress, and linking!  Are you totally confused yet?

Let Speech Advantage lead you through the process of improving your English pronunciation through accent reduction training.  Don’t let your communication skills inhibit your career advancement. Contact Speech Advantage today and experience how we can help!
